Attraction Type: Boat Ride
Designed for: Beastly Kingdom
Years Designed:
Mid 1990s

Description

"A gentle musical boat ride through the animals from Disney's animated classic, 'Fantasia.' Both the crocodiles and hippos from 'Dance of the Hours' and the Pegasus, fauns and centaurs from Beethoven's 'Pastoral' are found here."

Planned as part of the never built Beastly Kingdom, Fantasia Gardens was the newest in a long line of Fantasia themed rides that never progressed to the construction stage. Following on from Garden of the Gods at Disneyland, a Fantasia overlay of the Swan Boats at the Magic Kingdom, and a boat ride at Disneyland Paris, Fantasia Gardens would have been a gentle ride through some of the most famous scenes and music from the animated classic Fantasia, with specific focus on the mythical Greek animals.

The boats would have sailed past Greek temples, a stylised Mount Olympus, and beneath a colourful rainbow archway.

Why Wasn't It Built?

Along with the rest of Beastly Kingdom, Fantasia Gardens was first delayed, and then cancelled due to budget restrictions.

Legacy

An attraction would eventually come to Walt Disney World with the name Fantasia Gardens - the miniature golf course at the Swan and Dolphin resorts.
